Speak and act love

1 John 3: 16-18 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Is this a familiar scene - a fellow believer has lost his job and goes to his friends, expresses his struggles and inability to  make ends meet. And all his christian friends do is sigh and say - " We will pray for you that God will provide and change your story." The sad brother goes home feeling empty, alone and abandoned, with nothing to eat, unpaid bills and cannot face his frustrated family.

His friends scurry off. One goes shopping for clothes he does not need. Another gives himself a new treat by buying the latest mobile phone, he intends to get rid of his old one although it works fine. The last friend just lost his wallet on his way back home, it had 200 pounds.

Where is the love of Christ that was demonstrated by these friends?

It is good to show love in words, but complete when lived through actions as well as words.
