Neither do I condemn you.

John 8:1-11

God is love. He loves us so much He died for us. And yet how difficult it is to comprehend the depth of God's love , especially when we feel we have failed Him.

The woman who had committed adultery knew she was condemned. Her own mind might have condemned her an umpteenth time. And with the many accusing fingers pointed at her, she was probably overwhelmed with shame and self pity. Her throat may have tightened with the thought of being stoned. She was at her weakest! The human fingers that pointed and accused her were there to highlight her faults and sin. They sought her condemnation. No one wanted to understand her, no one was interested in saving her. The people condemning her believed they were fighting for the course of God. God disliked adultery and had commanded that the adulterer be stoned, they reasoned.

In the nick of time, God showed up as Jesus. He is the lawgiver, and a just Judge. The men were glad to see Him, for they believed He would back their decision to condemn and stone the adulterer. But then Jesus surprised them all... he wrote something on the ground. Yes, he wrote on the ground. Was it a judgement unto death? Well, He asked the one without sin to throw the first stone. No one remained, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

No one qualified to condemn the adulterer. Yes no one! Neither does God condemn you. He loves you and wants to save you from your sins. Come to Him just as you are!

When Jesus showed up, love showed up! 1 Peter 4: 8  Love covers a multitude of sin. Jesus came to save us from our sins, not to condemn us. There is no wrong doing that He did not die for. There is no sin that his love does not cover. His only message is - " Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."
