Loving the Force of Destruction

Deuteronomy 7:3-4 Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.

The above is the warning God gave to His children concerning the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

God described them as the seven nations larger and stronger than the Israelites, and warned them to destroy them — and when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally.

There are some people that as children of God, if we associate with, or go on love trips with, they will suffocate our relationship with the Lord and destroy us in the end. God foresaw this so warned His children. Sometimes we underestimate the influence of the enemy. He is a force to reckon with when we fight him on our own. God was frank about this, and described the enemies of the Israelites as - seven nations larger and stronger than you.

God was quick to bring to light the fact that although the enemy of Israel was larger and stronger, His children could defeat them if they relied on Him. And when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.

We can defeat the enemy if we fight God's way. Other than that, we can be easily overpowered and converted to the enemy's camp. Samson loved a strange woman, Samson did not rely on God to help him choose a partner. He blindly chose Delilah. She was an enemy, who managed to get Samson to a place where the Spirit of God left him - Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.

Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain in the prison. Judges 16:20-21

We must be careful whom we fall in love with, for some are a force of destruction who will pull us into doom and spiritual weakness. Even in loving, we must love God's way.
