1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
God is love, and pursuing the way of love is what distinguishes us as children of God. However sometimes we drift away and allow hurt and pain to deform us. We then hide behind the gifts and power of God that are displayed through us to console ourselves.
It is good to desire spiritual gifts, but the truth is, when we exhibit all these gifts in an atmosphere of no love, they become undesirable, and do not minister to others as they ought to. Before you desire spiritual gifts, first seek to walk and portray love.
1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
In James 2 :15-16 , we learn that if a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
We must not only claim to love as believers in Christ Jesus, but we must act in love , and demonstrate love in all aspects of our lives - by showing kindness, forgiveness, and all that love is, as shown below:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
