Asking Crucial Questions

Joshua 7

There are times in one's walk with the Lord when one may need to ask God certain questions and seek Him for answers and a way out. This is not a dent on your faith but an expression of the importance you place on your relationship with God. One only works on relationships that matter.

It is easier to be in denial about how we actually feel about certain occurrences in our Christian walk, sometimes feeling that asking questions and having certain reservations means we do not have sufficient faith in God.

Joshua believed that God was their Lord of Hosts who made Israel strong in battle. He therefore sent a delegation to fight Ai. The Israelites came back defeated, confused and frightened. Joshua turned to God for crucial answers :

Joshua 7:6-9 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell face down to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads. And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan! Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies? The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?

God answered and showed Joshua what had caused Israel's defeat, and this enabled Joshua to correct the mistakes of Israel that led to their defeat. Are you faced with situations where you seem lost and confused? Ask God questions! Seek for answers through prayer and His Word, and await Him to show His faithfulness.
