Change of Season - Part 1

1 Chronicles 12:32 From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take.

A change in season can be exciting, with the sudden changes in the sky, to changes on the landscapes. The blooming hues all around us or the browning of leaves to give off a rich glow of fallen golden leaves, with hints of green. The death of greenery gives life to the birth of gloom, ice and cold.  Yet in all of this we find reason to enjoy each new season. Snowmen and snow balls help to put a smile on our faces.

Then in the tropical countries, some await their rainy seasons where heavy rainfalls make the way for a bouncy harvest. There are dry spells that give an all year summer feel with the upspring of parties and the invasion of fun. Some seasons bring in the chill. And others bring the dry and irritating weather that characterises harmattan. Seasons are altogether beautiful and the changes they bring can be exciting.

When a season is changing, we must act proactively. You will need to prepare for a rainy seasons with umbrellas, raincoats, as well as have the right shoes and clothing. You must have a good drainage system to avoid floods. You must simply be prepared for floods in the worst case scenario. In the very hot summer days, you must have the right clothing and ventilation, and cooling systems.

Can you imagine wearing a heavy winter coat with thick tights and woolen jumpers in a hot tropical country? Ridiculous is an understatement! On the contrary, can you envisage wearing a light swim suit and parading outside on an extremely cold winter night, barefoot and bare armed? You are likely to freeze to death.

If we make all these preparations in the physical to embrace changes in seasons, how come we ignore changes in spiritual seasons? Israel missed the season of the coming of the Messiah because they were not willing to change their thinking and adjust their beliefs.  The same God that brought the law was bringing something much different from the law to make life easier and complete for them. But they could not perceive the change in season.

Do you understand the seasons of your life? Are you ready for your current and next season in your life?
