Have you ever been stood up by someone you relied on to keep his/her side of an arrangement? It can make you feel stupid, and can actually cost you dearly. There are certain people that we must be wary of, if we are to excel in life.
You must discern between reliable and unreliable people, so that you can avoid heart aches. There are certain people that you cannot count on when it comes to the crux.
In Judges 7:1-8, when Gideon was preparing an army for battle against the Midianites, the Lord decided to reduce the number of people Gideon had in his army. First of all, He directed Gideon to ask anyone that was afraid to turn back. Twenty thousand men left.
These men could not be relied upon due to fear. Fear can make us unreliable. Fear caused Peter to desert and deny Jesus at His hour of need. If you have a friend who is a man pleaser, and is afraid of opposition, you may have an unreliable friend. A christian who is afraid of persecution will likely turn out to be an unreliable follower of Jesus.
We must be reliable as co-workers of Christ. We ought to be reliable as friends. We have to be reliable at our work places. The Bible admonishes us to let our yes be yes, and our no be no. That is a mark of truthfulness and reliability.
The Holy Spirit is a reliable Spirit. God is a reliable God. And as His children, we are called and equipped by His Spirit to be reliable.
“But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness [or reliability], gentleness and self control” (Galatians 5:22 TLB).
Choose to be reliable. Choose faithfulness at all you do.
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. Luke 16:10
