Eyes that cannot see

Numbers 22:21-35

Balaam had eyes but he could not see the angel with the drawn sword because his heart was not in the right place.

Jeremiah 5:21,23
Hear this, you foolish and senseless people,
who have eyes but do not see,
who have ears but do not hear:
But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts;
they have turned aside and gone away.

When our hearts are bent on having their own way in spite of God' s beckonings, we turn rebellious and stubborn, and thereby shut our eyes and ears to whatever God is showing or saying. We become wise in our own eyes, but foolish and senseless before God.

God who uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise, especially those who are wise in their own eyes, used a donkey talking, to bring Balaam to his senses.

Do not wait for something foolish and embarrassing to bring you on your knees before God. Choose to fear God. Choose to see! And choose to hear. It is a choice to be obedient to God. A choice to put God first and to obey Him.

Saul had eyes but could not see. It took a bright light blinding him, and Jesus rebuking him in order for his eyes to open. Choose to fear God. Choose to see! And choose to hear.
