I remember back in Secondary School, there was a senior student who wanted some sort of love relationship with me. I was in no way interested. After umpteenth attempts to get me to change my mind did not reap the expected results, I suddenly turned the arch-enemy of this senior student, and suffered miserably.
How did a so called love turn so sour? How could love grow into hatred? What changed?
The story of Amnon, David's son, who claimed to love his half sister, Tamar so strongly that he schemed and raped her, but hated her afterwards, threw light on this type of love. 2 Samuel 13
This so called love is actually lust masquerading as love. It is a camouflage; a lustful passion that stems from evil desires. It is a hunger to gratify our sinful nature. Therefore when it is deprived of its desires, its truthful nature emerges. It is evil and full of hatred, and has no love traits at all.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
