Openness of love.
Proverbs 27:5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
I love openess, truth and honesty, and prefer a friend who openly tells me the plain truth, even if it hurts, than a friend who will tell me lies and embellished truths just to please me.
There are many times that we may be genuinely unaware that we are doing something wrong, so need a friend to point us in the right way.
There may be other times when to please others we may forsake truth and embrace hypocrisy. At such times, we need a true and genuine friend's rebuke to act real.
In Galations 2:11-21, Paul talks about rebuking Peter (Cephas) to the face, because he realised Peter was acting hypocritically and out of sync with God's Word.
As Christians, we have to let our yes be yes , and our no be no. We must correct each other in love and lead true and honest lives.
Proverbs 28:23 Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor rather than one who has a flattering tongue.
