Samson thought he had found love. He was a man whom God had chosen and was using - full of power and of God's Spirit.
Samson was however careless with his associations. He had just escaped from being lynched after seeing a prostitute. Yet Samson did not learn his lesson.
He went on to befriend Delilah, a lady whose heart was set on money rather than love. Her evil heart led her to accept eleven hundred shekels of silver from each of those that sought to capture Samson.
Then she proceeded to lure Samson to reveal the secret of his strength. Samson did not allow God to direct his path and choices. He ended up revealing his greatest secret to an enemy of his freedom.
As Christians, we must be careful of whom we open up to. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. We must be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and be very selective in our choice of friends and be extremely careful as to what we disclose to others.
Our enemy, the devil plants characters like Delilah strategically in our lives. These ones subtly steal our freedom and peace. If we are careless, they can lead us to a point where we will lose God's presence and power, and be reduced to prisoners in the camp of our enemy.
We must be quick to listen and slow to speak.
