1 John 2:16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
When Jesus was tempted by Satan, he was presented with everything the world offers: a craving for physical pleasure to have his hunger satisfied. This was followed by an offer to show forth his powers as a son of God, for him to delight in the pride of his position and prove his ability to command angels to listen to him. Then lastly, Jesus was tested to crave for what his eyes saw - the riches of the world.
Matthew 4:1-11
Satan still uses the same things to tempt us. He causes us to crave for things that only gratify our physical needs and not our spiritual needs. We even sometimes sin against God to satisfy these needs. The story of the old prophet and the man of God teaches us to put God's Word before satisfying our physical needs, in order not to be devoured by the enemy. 1 Kings 13
