Manoeuvring God's Word

God's yea is yea, and His nay is nay. He does not mince words, and means what He says. On the other hand, God is a listening God, and believes in reasoning with us.

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

God is sovereign,  but He is not a dictator. When He gives us a message or Word, He gives room for us to exercise at liberty our will. He never forces His will on us. There is always His role as God, and Gideon's role (the role of man.)

The people of Nineveh were sinful and cruel, and yet wise enough to know that they could through their actions manoeuvre and change God's judgement to befall them through repentance. Although disaster was foretold by Jonah to befall them, they reasoned with God and averted it.

King Hezekiah got a message from God to put his house in order because he was going to die. Hezekiah, knowing he could reason with God, negotiated with Him and received additional fifteen years to his years on Earth.

1 Timothy 1:18 This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight.
