Ephesians 6:14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.
We are in a battle on Earth, unknowingly or knowingly. We are fighting against unseen forces who throw arrows at us consistently.
Our main targeted area is our heart. A breastplate is a piece of armour that covers the area around the chest.
Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Our human hearts dispel evil. Jeremiah 17:9 -10 "The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve."
We are born with the sin of Adam that makes our hearts unrighteous and evil. What we do not want to do, we tend to do. And what we want to do, we cannot do. This signifies an ongoing battle within us.
God has caused Jesus to die in our place to exchange our hearts of stone for a heart of flesh. When we accept the
work of Christ on the Cross, we obtain God's righteousness that changes our hearts and fills us with God's Spirit.
Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
The devil knowing this will try to corrupt our new hearts. If we do not guard God's righteousness upon us by being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and bearing the fruit of the Spirit, wickedness and carnality will spring out of us and cause us to be defiled.
Without our righteousness of God intact, Satan and his team will just knock us about, and cause us to jump at their every whim. So guard God's righteousness on you. Walk in the Spirit and live holy, for this is your breastplate!
