God is love

I Corinthians 13, the classic scripture that talks about loves says, ‘ now I will show you the most excellent way, if I speak in the tongues of men and of angels and have not love I am only a resounding gong......I gain nothing’

Love according to the first 3 verses is the measure or should be the measure in all that we do.  If we are generous and give all that we have and are powerful but the roots of all we do is not love, then we have done nothing. What then is so important about love that our very existence and attitudes are to be measured by it?

Many years ago I had the privilege of coming into contact with a famous minister in West Africa, who God used mightily in the miracle and healing ministry.

I have a mobility challenge so I walk with a walking stick. I was standing at a crowded place at a naming ceremony when this man walked into the hall way where the ceremony was held.  As he was coming through, he kept pushing and shoving his way through telling people to move out of his way. As he got near me, the man just shoved me aside without any care or concern, I would have fallen had my sister not held on to me.
Seeing how he was treating people with no concern or care what so ever, I thought to myself, how can a man like him walk in the ministry he was walking in, but then I remembered that it had been a while since I heard of any  great testimony from his healing and miracle working ministry.

Love works all things, that man, had a powerful ministry, I heard of testimonies that limbs that were not there grew when he prayed.  Now I don’t hear those anymore.  If what he showed that day was anything to go by, is it any wonder I don’t hear such testimonies anymore?

The roots of all the gifts and ministries of God is love.  Without it you are just putting up a show and acting on borrowed time. It will only be a matter of time, because nobody likes to listen to a noisesome gong, especially God.

Paul realised that all works without love will only take you as far as your energy will , but with love as your roots, you will weep that you didn’t sell your only possession to help one more soul in need.  You will go that extra mile to give more because you love. God is love and if we are to show him to the world then we are to show love , for in showing love , we show God.

What then is love?
