David was trained by God in a school the world won't regard as posh. God's training however is good training to help us withstand the evil day, and to prepare us for the plans He has for our lives.
Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
God knew the plans He had for David to be King. He trained him as a shepherd to familiarise himself with the role of overseeing.
Before David faced Goliath, he had faced fierce animals in the wilderness. This made him bold and filled him with the needed faith that with God on his side, he could win any battle.
David was moulded by God. His human heart led him astray a few times, however God's training had instilled in him a longing that always took him back to God. His was a simple trust in God, and an acknowledgement of the hand of God on his life.
As much as he tried, David could not forget how God's hand lifted him from the grass to glory - from being a nobody to being first in command. He had learnt humility by the things he suffered.
God's school is sometimes
military-like that instils in us the discipline we need in life. When we graduate from this school, we are promoted in life. Be patient when being taught my God. His lessons may be difficult but the benefits far outweigh the price to pay.
