Binding relationships

Amos 3:3 Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?

In choosing companions, you must firstly consider each other's outlook on salient topics and areas of life. When the very areas that serve as holding poles of life, such as belief, differs  vigorously,  it is a
danger sign.

God warns us through His Word - 2 Corinthians 6:14 Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?

This is not to make us hostile. This is to caution us about being bound together when it will cause friction. We live in a world with people who we will need every now and then. We are told to love one another, even our enemies. And yet when it comes to certain unions, we are warned to walk with like minded people.

This is because certain unions and associations open us up to be influenced. Unions such as marriage and close friendships.  We ought to allow God's Word and voice to guide us with such relationships.
