Betrayed with a kiss.
Luke 22:1-6 the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Jesus had walked faithfully with Judas, and had even put him in charge of His finances, yet Judas found it appropriate to betray Jesus with money and a kiss.
Luke 22:47-48 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him,but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
The stabs of a friend hurt more than the kisses of an enemy. When we have dealt loyally with a person who betrays us, it is indeed painful. Jesus suffered pain, hurt and betrayal at the hands of those He loved.
However, Jesus saw all that happened through the eyes of God's will for His life. He knew it was God's will that He died for the world. He knew this will was going to be accompanied by betrayals and sufferings.
Therefore when God's will was done. He was able to say whilst dying on the cross - "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." We can also handle betrayals if we look at everything through God's eyes - His Word and Will.
Love the friend that turns enemy. Love your enemies. They help you to become God's Will, even when they betray you with a kiss.
