In Jerusalem, a pool called Bethesda was stirred infrequently by an angel. The first to get in the pool was healed. Jesus went there and noticed a man who had been there a long time - thirty-eight years.
When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
You would have expected this man to have seized the moment to say yes. But he had been in that pathetic condition for far too long that he could not see beyond it. So he answered - The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
There are many times that being faced with unpleasant situations, we continually long for change. We may be overwhelmed by the situation and this can blind us to the possible door that can take us out of the unfortunate condition or situation.
God is a God of the now. He calls on us to forget about the past and concentrate on the now. It does not matter where we have been or what we have done. It is inconsequential what stands in our way, or what is against us. Jesus is well able to bring enormous change and make a remarkable and miraculous difference.
Jesus seized the moment and helped the man out of his misery - Jesus said to him,r “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.
Just like Jesus, we have to know when it is time to stop being bothered about the past. We have to look to God and hear about what He has for us. If our minds are set on our troubles, it can prevent us from seeing the solution God is presenting to us.
So “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.Behold, I will do a new thing,Now it shall spring forth;Shall you not know it?
