Know your enemies.
Jesus knew Judas was not on his side, but Samson was oblivious of the schemings of Delilah against him. Her betrayal took him by surprise.
As Christians, the enemy schemes against us all the time. 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
He uses people, events and circumstances. He uses our flaws and weaknesses. Sometimes the devil uses even our strengths as well to trap us into wrong doings. The devil used the weakness David had for women to lead him into committing adultery and murder. This brought a lot of pain to him and to his family.
If David had discerned Bathsheba as a plot of the enemy, he would have prevented all the sorrow his reign experienced. The Man of God who was killed for disobeying God in 1 Kings 13, died because he failed to discern his enemy was speaking through the Old Prophet.
Jesus was alert in the Spirit. He knew God's purpose and plans for Him. That is why He stood His grounds when Peter tried to dissuade him from his purpose. He told Peter bluntly - " Get thee behind me Satan."
Jesus spent time frequently with His Father, and was sensitive to the voice of His Spirit. We ought to do same so we can identify and discern what the enemy throws at us. Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Jesus made it a point to obey His Father at all times.
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:31
