Enemies within!

Matthew 10:36  A man's enemies will be the members of his own household.

Abel was killed by his own jealous brother. Esau was betrayed by his brother and mother. Jacob's own uncle deceived him into marrying Leah. Joseph experienced enormous pain because his brothers sold him into slavery.

David faced numerous let downs by family members - Amnon raped his sister. Absalom killed Amnon, and proceeded with sabotaging his father's throne and abusing his concubines.

Jesus was sold to be killed by one of his own - Judas. Many times, we assume that enemies are afar off. But the devil often uses those that are close. He uses what and whom has access to us to wind us up, discourage us and frustrate us.

He also uses what is within our hearts to mislead us. The fall of Absalom was the enemy of bitterness within him. The fall of Saul was the enemy of jealousy within him. The fall of Judas, Ananias and Saphira were the enemies of greed within them.

What do you have within you that can cause your fall?  Ephesians reminds us - Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
