Acts 16:16-18 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
The little girl was declaring what was true, but through a false medium or spirit. Paul and Silas were indeed servants of the Most High God showing the way of salvation. This truth is confirmed in the following scriptures: Titus 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness.
Paul,a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God. Romans 1:1. We are in a time and age where deception is on the ascendancy. As children of God, we must not be moved by people who can reveal every secret in our lives. Rather, we ought to be interested in the spirit by which they speak.
As we walk in the Spirit, that is, as we walk closely with God and with His Holy Spirit, He will help us discern what is of Him and what isn't. We may feel an uneasiness or annoyance like Paul felt, or we may hear God speak clearly to us, or cause a scriptural truth to pop up in our minds when confronted with deception, the kind that is wrapped up in truth, making it difficult to discern.
God is able to help us see through the lies of the devil, if only we would walk closely with Him, and be sensitive to His guidance.
Pray for God to open your ears to His voice and guidance; your heart and eyes to His truth; and to make your feet swift to follow His Word and voice.
