The heart that appeals to God
Adam and Eve sinned against God. When God confronted them, they came up with one excuse after the other. They did not do the decent thing of apologising and asking for forgiveness.
David sinned against God and when God sent Nathan to confront him, he readily accepted his mistakes. David did not for a second give an excuse. After all he was the King and had great power. He was seduced by Bathsheba who chose to bath outside. He never said you know what, I am a man with feelings and can go astray.
Instead he admitted his sin and acknowledged having sinned against God by doing evil to his fellow man. At this time in David's life, he realised one very important characteristic of God - Psalm 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
David had discovered what his predecessor, Saul did not know. God knows we are mere mortals and can sin. However, He loves a heart that accepts upfront his/her sin and turns from it. God detests excuses for sin, and abhors the heart that sets out to willingly disobey Him when it knows His truth.
