Zechariah was a righteous priest of God. He had faith in God and prayed to Him, as well as served in God's temple.
God deemed it fit to reward his righteousness and to answer his prayer, so He sent His angel Gabriel to Zechariah - Luke 1:13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.
The righteous Zechariah was expected to praise God who had answered his prayer. Contrarily, he chose to allow fear and doubt to take over. Zechariah who was filled with fear at the sudden appearance of the Angel Gabriel, lingered in fear, even though God had warned him not to.
Looking rather at his physical condition, rather than God's ability, Zechariah doubted God. Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”
When we pray, we must not doubt, nor continue to see the enormity of our physical problem as this will dwarf our faith. We should watch our words after we have prayed. We need to keep quiet over our human fears, and simply bask in God's good promise.
The angel of God shut Zechariah's mouth - the source of his doubt and fear. Our fear can cripple our blessing and nip it in the bud. The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”
God is about to visit you - please shut the mouth of fear and doubt so that you can safely deliver your miracles.
