Oil lubricates engines. The Holy Spirit is like oil that lubricates the follower of Jesus. He helps us to pray, convicts us of sin, works through us, and expounds God's Word to us as well as directs our footsteps.
We need this oil all the time. This oil automatically refills when we are using it up. However, when not in use, it dries up. That's when praying becomes a dread, studying God's Word becomes boring and we happen to find the things of God as a bother.
The Holy Spirit is our helper. He's there to help our weaknesses, if only we would allow Him.
