The heart of a child

Matthew 18:1-3

At the same time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child to him, and set him in the middle of them, And said, Truly I say to you, Except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

A child innocently trusts an elderly person, especially his or her guardian or parent. A child imitates what he or she sees or hears. A child believes and soaks up everything he is given on a sponge - virtually believes wholeheartedly what he is told. 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. The Gospel sounds gibberish - a virgin giving birth to a sinless man, who died on a cross, and rose again to save all men from sin.

Many men do not see the logic in this story, and therefore choose not to believe in God's saving grace through Jesus. Mark 10:15 warns us that Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." We ought to accept God and His Kingdom like we are told by Jesus and his Apostles in the Bible. We have to swallow what the Spirit of God has revealed through scripture, just as it is - in its unadulterated form.

Children are naturally meek and humble. Jesus reminds us to be like these children and serve. For in His Kingdom the greatest serve. Matthew 18:4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. We must bear the heart of a child to make it to Heaven. When we become too wise in our own eyes , we become foolish and disregard God, just like Lucifer.
