Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
The Secret place of the Almighty in times past, was the temple of God, where the presence of God dwelt - the Holy of Holies. Ezekiel prophesied about the temple saying : My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile it. Ezekiel 7 :22
The book of Psalms confirms the tabernacle as the secret place - Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
Now, under the New Testament, Jesus has paved the way for us to have God to dwell in us as individuals. God's Holy Spirit lives in each one that accepts Jesus as Lord and Saviour. He is God's indwelling presence, and seal of ownership. Ephesians 1: 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 3 : 16 -17 Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
God's presence indwells anyone who daily surrenders to Jesus, his/her will. When you follow after God, worshipping Him in truth, forsaking evil, and pursuing after righteousness, God dwells in you. You become His Temple - His Secret Place. You then carry His Presence, and His protection stays with you.
Psalm 91 begins by assuring the one that dwells in God's secret place that he shall abide under the Almighty's shadow. It then goes on to elaborate on how God would serve as a refuge and fortress for such a one, rescuing him/her from all evil, and providing long (eternal) life and salvation.
Are you faithfully serving God? Do you acknowledge Him in all your ways? If yes, then do not fear evil, for evil will not come near your courts. When you think evil has reared its head, call on God. For He has promised - He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. Psalm 91: 15
God promises to be with you in trouble. That means trouble may come , but He shall walk you out of it. When the devil throws trouble at you, stand tall, and call God to gracefully escort you out of it. This is God's promise to you. God is not a man to lie, therefore stand on His promise, it is a sure one!
