Hope against hope

Key  Scripture : Ezekiel 37 : 1- 14

Have you ever found yourself weighing your situation against the promises of God, and yet somewhat accepting- ''This is a hopeless situation."

In the natural, we may encounter situations that look hopeless. A woman looking to have her own children naturally, has needfully had her womb removed through a surgical operation, and is thinking - " now there is no hope."

That was where Ezekiel was when God brought him to the valley of dry bones, and asked - "Son of man, can these bones live?"
The answer Ezekiel gave was to cover up his unbelief, he refrained from uttering what humanly was possible - dry bones cannot have life. They come about after death has occurred, and decomposition has taken place.

Ezekiel rather smartly answered - “Sovereign LORD, you alone know.”

Yes, only God has the answers for situations beyond us. When life throws hopeless situations at us, when impossibilities stare at us squarely, and frightening events encompass us, we need to look up to God. He has the answers and the ability to cause life to spring up from the dead. Once Ezekiel had given God the upper hand, God instructed him to prophesy (to speak forth) life to the dry bones.

Ezekiel 37 : 4 - 6 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”

We have the power as children of God to speak to dead situations and to alter them to the glory of God. God has given us His promises through scriptures inspired by His Spirit. Whatever we encounter in life, we have promises of God to fall back on, and demand its manifestation. It is interesting to note that God did not speak to the dry bones Himself, but rather gave Ezekiel the Words to speak. God has entrusted to us the power to create life or death through our tongues - Proverbs 18 : 21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

New Living Translation reads - The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Our words can transform our situation, so be careful what you speak. Ezekiel changed the state of the dry bones when he begun to prophesy -
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Ezekiel 37 : 7 -8

As we read on, we would realise that bit by bit, and stage by stage, God instructed Ezekiel to prophesy until the dry bones became a vast living army. What hopeless situation are you faced with? Speak the Word of God to it! Speak positivity to it! You can change it by the words you utter. I once heard a testimony of a woman with no womb who gave birth to twins. She was a prayerful Christian who trusted God and prayed a miracle into being.

Take consolation in the Words of God -
‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them;'

Your situation is not hopeless, if God made dry bones live, then take heart, there is hope for you, hope for the future says the Lord!
