A chip off the old block

John 5 : 19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

John 12 : 49 -50 I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it. And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.”

The above words of Jesus must guide us in our walk with God. God created man in His own image, and wants man to remain in His image. The old serpent the devil is at war with man, trying to change man into his deceptive image. God through Jesus Christ once again presented to man the image he ought to be in. Through Jesus, we are given the power to be transformed back into the image of God.

However, even after this wonderful re-birth transformation, our new 'born again' image can become tainted by the old serpent's characteristics. If we are not alert, the devil will inject us with poison that will alter the image of God in us. Let us take a cue from Jesus - He only did what He saw His Father do, and only said what He heard the Father say. In other words, our actions and words must reflect God.

In John 8 : 47 Jesus said - Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” We must be hearers and doers of God's Word to be His true followers. As people who follow God's teachings, we shall progressively become like Him. We cannot follow traditions to become like God. The bona fide children of God have His DNA , which is only possible through a spiritual re-birth experience. Once , we become children of God, we must obey God's instructions and speak His language to be part of His family and Kingdom. There is a code of conduct to follow in God's household.

For instance, we cannot be liars and haters. That is the code of conduct in Satan's household. We cannot be sexually immoral, it is the characteristic of Satan's family. 1 John 2 : 4, 6 - Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Are we a chip off God or Satan? Our words and actions serve as the litmus test. They will expose whom we really belong to. DNA does not lie, so is the Word of God which shall judge us. The unfailing love of God is available for the weary soul struggling to break camp into God's household.

Shalom to all who love God. His love is sufficient for you!
