The Favour of God

Psalm 5:12
For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.

The favour of God brings blessings to us:
When God decides to cover us with favour, we become shielded from the enemy. Job was a typical example of this, he was favoured by God, and therefore shielded from the enemy, Satan. Job was a very blessed and respected man until the favour of God was restrained in his life. He lost everything as a result. The devil was aware of God's favour that acted as a shield for Job, and sought for it to be removed so he could attack Job.

Job 1 8 -12 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.” The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Satan knew there was a hedge around Job. That is what God's favour does to us, it protects us and our blessings.

The favour of God brings us Peace (wholeness):

2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
The grace of God is the unmerited favour of God. When we grow in the knowledge of God, and of Jesus, we automatically walk in favour. Favour brings peace which is wholeness in every area of our lives.

The Favour of God brings promotion:

God's favour brings promotion and recognition even when you least deserve it.

Genesis 39:21-22 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.

Joseph was shown favour by the prison warden because God granted it to be so. When God chooses to shower us with His kindness, we shall walk in promotion. God showed Joseph even greater favour by moving him from prison into the position of a Prime Minister.

Psalm 75:6-7 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

The favour of God brings restoration:

When God favours us, whatever the devil has stolen from us is restored. God replenishes or replaces what we have lost.

Exodus 3:21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

Psalm 105:37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

The Israelites, who were God's children were oppressed by the Egyptians. However when God delivered them, he caused their oppressors to give them their treasured possessions, making them wealthy. God restored to the Israelites what the enemy had stolen from them.

Jabez prayed to the Lord, and He heard him and blessed him. God showed Jabez favour, and this turned him into a very honourable man.

1 Chronicles 4: 9-10
Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

We can pray and declare God's favour on our lives. We can also increase God's favour on our lives by increasing in our knowledge of God and Jesus, this is possible by praying and studying God's Word.

God's favour is available for every righteous man, that is everyone that has believed in Jesus and has had His righteousness imputed upon him/her. Be conscious of this, and you shall walk in it everyday.

God richly bless and favour you!
