The old hymn comes to mind - trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey.
From creation, the lack of obedience to God's laws and instructions always causes pain, set backs , and sometimes physical death. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and were made mortal as a result, that is, they became subject to death. Eve was sentenced to agonising child births, whilst Adam had to toil to survive. Disobedience to God caused the first inhabitants of the Earth to suffer, and were ejected from their blissful abode. This was the beginning of suffering for mankind.
The Bible has numerous stories about how men have suffered as a result of disobeying God. Samson suffered shame and digrace when he went against the rules God had set for him - Judges 13 - 16. Israel as a nation suffered captivity and slavery as a result of disobeying God.The young Prophet in 1Kings 13: 1-32 died when he allowed himself to be lured to disobey God.
On the other hand when we decide to obey God, He steps into our situation and curtails shame and disgrace. At the wedding at Cana, Mary the mother of Jesus encouraged the servants to obey Jesus, and when they heeded, they prevented imminent embarrassment, and had their needs met.
The walk of life is a walk that can be laced with many persecutions and trials. However when we trust and obey God, He pulls down walls of Jericho in our lives, and defeats the enemy that seeks to destroy us. When God instructed his children concerning the walls of Jericho, it probably did not make sense to their human mind. Simply walking around the wall for six days, repeating it on the seventh day amidst shouting. Hmm, guess it sounded like some hogwash. However, God proved to all that His foolishness is wiser than the wisdom of men.
Obedience to God gives us joy, which is our strength.
Do not feel tired of staying on God's side. His ways may seem to delay in the parlance of Earthly timing. But like Jesus with the death of Lazarus(John 11) , God's delay is only because He wants to show a greater display of His power. Stay in obedience! It is what shall give you a happy ending.
