I came across this poem that I wrote in 2003 and decided to share it with you. The title is LIFE'S LINGERING JOURNEY.
On life's lingering journey!
Trodding past fields of pain
Playing in plains of joy
Negotiating curves of decision
Halting at traffic lights of calamities
Driving past happy occurences
Filling my tank at Hope Filling Station
Taking a brunch at Inspirational Hotel
Going on.......Singing tunes of vision.
Behind the wheel of purpose
Branching into the Lane called Fulfilment
Heading towards the gates of success
Stilled by closed gates of hinderances
Stopped by the gate warden called discouragement
Interacting with fear
Yet favoured to enter into the land of opportunities
Breathing in air for stamina
Meeting with strength
Entering with wisdom
Introduced by experience
And on and on I progress .......on life's lingering journey.
Written on 22nd December, 2003.
Dear reader, going over this poem I wrote back in 2003, caused me to reflect on how God leads us. Life is full of many turns, some of which we can miss, and which could cause us much pain. Imagine taking a wrong turn at marriage. This could spell a life time of misery.
David took a right turn in life when he decided to face Goliath. God showed His power through him, and this brought glory to God and favour to David. However, due to no fault of David, he incurred the wrath of King Saul, who through jealousy sought to kill him.
Running away from King Saul brought David many years of sorrow and pain. But in the end, God glorified him and made him King. David was at the peak of success when he made a grave mistake. He committed adultery and murder. His sin was forgiven by God, yet had repercussions on his family life. The ripple effect was rape and murder amongst his children. His dear son Absalom also slept openly with David's concubines, and then led a coup against his reign.
King David's wrong move with Bathsheba cost him many more years of pain. Yet still, God considered him as a man after His own heart. King David's end was glorious, not shameful. He was one controversial character whose life history tells so beautifully the story of life. Life can be full of ups and downs. We may make great mistakes in life, some very terrible, yet irreversible. However, we ought not throw in the towel. We have to get up after every fall, run to God and continue with the race.
Where are you in life? Please note that wherever you are, is part of a beautiful story, because there can be a happy ending if you allow God to help you write your life's history. He would use every right and wrong decision you have made to give you an end result which is a masterpiece- just trust in God!
