The followers of Christ were first called Christians in Acts 11:26. They were individuals who had made a decision to follow the teachings of Jesus, and lived like He did.
In the world today, a great number of people profess to be Christians. We see many of such living in unforgiveness, adultery, fornication, strife, fraud and its like. We see many live in sin, not because they humanly falter, but because they have gladly chosen to do so with impudence.
Some think thay can fool God. They know what God requires from them as Christians, but refuse to obey. They pretend to be a part of God's family, wear Christianity as a cloak when amongst God's people, and take off the cloak when they believe no one is watching, partaking in deeds of darkness.
Beloved, we must never forget that God is light. Light always exposes darkness. A very dark room can be lit by light. The Bible is emphatic about this - This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that
God is light and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5 RSV)
We cannot hide either our good deeds or our evil deeds from God. Some Christians genuinely suffer with a weakness, and in humility, and with brokenness, seek God's deliverance and healing. Some others, try to outwit God and their fellow men by pretending to serve God, wearing a made up cloak of Christianity. Such people sin with impudence, and hide under the cover of darkness. Others also practice things that God hates and gloat in them.
Proverbs 6:16-19 teaches us that These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
The devil works tediously to fill Christians with pride, he causes them to become liars, compulsive liars really. Some Christians shed innocent blood. Remember 1John 3: 15 teaches us that Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. So kindly do not be deceived to think you can hate your brother or sister, and still be declared as God's. It is surprising to watch a Christian plan evil against another. These days we behold Christians who love to sin, and do so craftily. Deliberately living in hypocrisy, and glorying in their misdeeds. Some Christians also enjoy causing confusion, and will bear false witness, creating fear, panic and discord.
All of the above are things God detests. God shall judge each and everyone of us, we must live our lives in accordance to His Word. Let us not forget what Jesus warned us of in Matthew 7 that 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
The gifts of God are without repentance. If you are moving in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, know that it is a gift that God shall not take back, but it can be corrupted. Do not be fooled to think walking in the gifts of the Holy Spirit is license to enter into Heaven, even when you do not live by God's Word.
A scripture worth studying is Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Christianity should be the living of a life where Jesus Christ resides in us, and is reflected on the outside. It is definitely not a cloak one chooses to put on, and take off at will. Judgement awaits us all, and taking a daily appraisal of our lives is prudent. We must endeavour to follow Jesus and His Word in all our ways, and with all of our hearts.
God richly bless you!
